
Candidates running for External Vice President of Statewide Affairs discussed sustainable statewide networks, lobbying and student accessibility in the Hub on Wednesday for this week’s A.S. elections’ candidate forums.

Candidates for Associated Students (A.S.) president faced off Monday over college affordability, campus climate and representation of marginalized communities.

Out-of-towners composed almost two-thirds of the arrests made during Deltopia, according to arrest logs released on Tuesday by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO).

The Board of Regents approved UC President Janet Napolitano’s plan in November 2015 to enroll 10,000 more undergraduates across the UC system by the 2018-19 school year, and UCSB is feeling the crunch.

Deltopia crowds were estimated to be as low as 6,000 and as high as 8,000 this year, up from approximately 3,500 the year before, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO).

Police presence during Deltopia will continue to decline this year following dropping attendance levels over the past three years.

The university will not use its usual chain-link fences during Deltopia in April, as the informal street party will fall on the same weekend as Spring Insight.
