OISS hosts English Conversation Club
The Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) is hosting an English Conversation Club meeting on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Student Resource Building (SRB) room 1103.
“The English Conversation Club (ECC) provides an opportunity to develop English language skills while also allowing participants to connect with other members of UCSB’s international community,” the Shoreline description read.
This event is free and open to all students.
Health & Wellness holds Open Awareness Meditation
Health & Wellness is holding Open Awareness Meditation on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 12-12:45 p.m. at the Health & Wellness and Women’s Center Community Room, SRB room 1238.
“Practicing meditation can help manage stress, as well as improve memory and focus. Join us each week for a guided meditation with a certified facilitator,” the Shoreline description read.
No experience is required and this event is open to all students.
ONDAS Student Center hosts New Gaucho 101
The Opening New Doors to Accelerating Success (ONDAS) Student Center is hosting “New Gaucho 101: Welcome to the Quarter System (First-Gen Edition)” on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Kerr Hall room 1150.
“This presentation will provide an overview of the basics of being an undergraduate at UCSB for students who aren’t familiar with UCSB,” the Shoreline description read. “We will go over academics, campus resources, student life, and also answer student questions.”
Free pizza and snacks will be provided. Students may register on Shoreline to attend.
Health & Wellness holds ‘Pass the Plate: Spice Workshop’
Health & Wellness is holding a “Pass the Plate: Spice Workshop” on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 1-2:30 p.m. at the SRB Multipurpose Room (MPR).
“Spice up your pantry and elevate your flavor game! Join us to learn about the components of flavor, how to use spices, and the secret health benefits of spices,” the Shoreline description read.
Chicken wings and cauliflower will be served with a Chinese Five-Spice blend.
MCC hosts Spiritual Care Club
MultiCultural Center (MCC) is hosting a Spiritual Care Club on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 2:30-4 p.m. at the MCC Lounge.
“Spiritual Care Club is a weekly space where members will learn how to use and trust divine and intuitive tools for their healing and care, identity development, and dreams and goals formation. It will be an intentional space where we can experience personal and collective growth, joy, and care in a safe and encouraging environment,” the Shoreline description read.

Edible Campus Program holds Expressing Compassion & Gratitude Through Journaling Workshop
UCSB Sustainability and the Edible Campus Program is holding an Expressing Compassion & Gratitude Through Journaling Workshop on Friday, Oct. 25, from 4-5 p.m. at St. Michael’s Community Garden.
“Reflect on how you can give back to your community and care for yourself. Take a stroll around natural spaces and write a list of what you love most about nature,” the Shoreline description read.

Arts & Lectures hosts An Evening with Percival Everett
Arts & Lectures is hosting An Evening with Percival Everett on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at Campbell Hall.
“Percival Everett is one of the most prolific and innovative writers of our time. The author of more than 30 books, including novels, poetry and short story collections, he has won numerous awards and been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize,” the event description read.
Tickets are free for students and are available on the Arts and Lectures website. Free copies of Everett’s new book, “James,” will be available in limited supply.
Department of Recreation holds Hallowheels
The Department of Recreation is holding Hallowheels from Friday, Oct. 25, at 9 p.m. until Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 a.m. in the UCSB Recreation Center.
“Hallowheels was created as a safe alternative activity for students to participate in outside of Isla Vista and has proven to be an incredibly fun and spirited Halloween tradition that brings the student community together,” the Shoreline description read.
Students are encouraged to dress up in costume and a costume contest will be hosted along with prizes for winners. Roller skates, pumpkin painting, a silent disco, photo booth and free pizza and candy will be provided.
Butterfly Conservation Club hosts Gardening Day
Butterfly Conservation Club is hosting a Gardening Day on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UCSB Greenhouse and Garden Project.
“Butterfly Conservation Club is excited to host our very first ‘Gardening Day’ at the UCSB Greenhouse and Garden Project. Thanks to GHGP, we have secured a plot of land to grow host plants and nectar-rich flowers for butterflies and pollinators native to Goleta,” the Shoreline description read.

Health & Wellness is holding The Happiness Challenge Team on Monday, Oct. 28, from 12-1 p.m. in the Health & Wellness and Women’s Center Community Room.
“Creating lasting happiness requires intentional actions. The Happiness Challenge Team is a support group that works together and practices two positive psychology interventions each week. Our goals are to improve personal relationships, increase the meaning in our lives, and build community,” the Shoreline description read.

Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (RCSGD) is holding a QTBIPOC Community Dinner on Monday, Oct. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the SRB MPR.

Health & Wellness is holding a Rejuvenation Station on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 3-5 p.m. at the Health & Wellness and Women’s Center, SRB room 1220.
“The Rejuvenation Station is a drop-in space where students can unwind and immerse in self-care. Registration includes tea, mindful activities, and a place to relax,” the Shoreline description read. “Connect with other students or with our friendly interns about resources and more opportunities for well-being.”

MCC hosts “Anti-Blackness in North Africa” talk
MCC is hosting an “Anti-Blackness in North Africa” talk with Butch Ware and Magda Campo on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 6-8 p.m. at the MCC Theater, as part of the MCC Race Matters Series.
“Understanding Black history and valuing Black lives is essential for collective liberation. Today, our guests, Professor Butch Ware and Magda Campo, discuss their experiences and insights on Anti-Blackness in North Africa,” the Shoreline description read.

Latinx UCSB Network Association holds Día de los Muertos Celebración de la Gente
Latinx UCSB Network Association is holding a Día de los Muertos Celebración de la Gente on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 4-6 p.m. at the SRB front lawn.
“Dia de los Muertos is a celebration that captures the idea of unity between life and death, it is a synthesis of the indigenous Mesoamerican and Spanish conquistador traditions. It is celebrated as a means of remembering loved ones and as a way to establish a sense of personal history,” the Shoreline description read.
The event includes food, music, art, performances, spoken word and a community altar.
