In preparation for Isla Vista’s annual block party, Deltopia, UCSB students have begun littering Del Playa Drive in order to give visitors an authentic taste of Gaucho life. Students have been spotted dumping extra cans and bottles, used condoms and vats of tar in the streets of I.V., showcasing some of UCSB’s most valuable exports.

Students explain their movement as a sort of protest to local officials’ attempts to contain Deltopia.

“Over-policing is probably the biggest problem facing America right now. I mean, me getting an MIP last quarter was arguably the police’s greatest offense,” second year pornography major Andrew Andrew said. “Littering is our way of saying ‘Fuck 12!’”

Some environmental activists oppose the deliberate littering of Del Playa Drive due to its proximity to the ocean and perceived environmental harm.

“When students are deliberately throwing extra bottles and used condoms into the street, its can blow into the ocean pretty easily,” fourth year tabling major Tereea Gur said. “But, the real problem is that you can’t even tell the difference between the littered version and DP normally.”

Deltopia visitors also condemn the polluters, claiming that the increased trash in the street will hinder their Isla Vista experience.

“I so excited for Deltopia now I no have fun cus trash,” second year Cal Poly journalism major and Deltopia visitor Emm Illy said. “Maybe I cum to I.V. another time.”

Organizers of the pollution group threaten to show visitors other Isla Vista highlights by doing things such as playing bad Pink Floyd covers and banning the use of bras. They also plan to entertain Deltopia visitors with the best of Isla Vista food, such as DLG catering and warm beer.

Deltopia, set for the first weekend of July, will surely be an excellent display of Isla Vista’s best.

Joseph R. Biden will throw Kirkland Signature Seltzer balloons into the street.
