Women’s Center hosts Feminist Book Club

The Women’s Center is hosting a Feminist Book Club on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 1-2 p.m. at the Women’s Center Community Room in the Student Resource Building (SRB).

“Come meet new people and discuss a new book with the Women’s Center! Whether you are an avid reader or want to start reading for leisure, you are welcomed!” the Shoreline description read.

The first 10 students to register on Shoreline will receive a free copy of this quarter’s book, “Against the Loveless World” by Susan Abulhawa.

MCC, C.O.D.E. hold Unlearning Academic Ableism workshop

The MultiCultural Center (MCC) and Commission on Disability Equity (C.O.D.E.) are holding an Unlearning Academic Ableism workshop on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 4-6 p.m. over Zoom. 

“This interactive Zoom workshop hosted by the MCC and CODE will begin with a brief overview of disability as an intersectional identity and experience. Next, participants will learn how to utilize the principles of Disability Justice to recognize and disrupt academic ableism,” the Shoreline description read. 

Students may register on Shoreline to receive the Zoom link to attend.

Arts & Lectures hosts author Pico Iyer for Q&A and book signing

Arts & Lectures is hosting Pico Iyer for an author Q&A and book signing on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 6-8 p.m. at the Santa Barbara Wine Collective. 

Free copies of Iyer’s book “Aflame” will be available until supplies last. This event is free for everyone who registers at the Arts & Lectures website

Health & Wellness holds “Mandarin Meditation for the Mind”

Health & Wellness is holding “Mandarin Meditation for the Mind” on Friday, Jan. 31, from 3-4 p.m. at the SRB.

“Join fellow Chinese international students for a calming meditation session designed to lift your mood and ease your mind in the comfort of your native language. Together, we’ll explore simple mindfulness techniques that make finding inner peace and positivity feel natural and effortless,” the Shoreline description read.

This event is open to everyone, students may register on Shoreline to attend.

RCSGD hosts “Taking Space: Conversations on Healing Black QT Bodies”

The Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (RCSGD) is hosting “Taking Space: Conversations on Healing Black QT Bodies” on Friday, Jan. 31, from 4-6 p.m. at the MCC.

“This is a three-event series for all Black QT students, including Afro-Latino, African, Biracial, and students in diaspora, to confront embodied trauma and process what it is like to have a marginalized body in a predominantly white institution,” the Shoreline description read.

This series is in collaboration with the MCC, Office of Black Student Development and Black Women’s Health Collaborative. The following events will take place on Feb. 14 and March 7.

Health & Wellness holds “Moving Beyond The Mirror: Strength Yoga & Body Image”

Health & Wellness is holding “Moving Beyond The Mirror: Strength Yoga & Body Image” on Friday, Jan. 31, from 5-6 p.m. at Robertson Gym, Room 1430. 

“This single-session, strength-based yoga class geared toward male-identifying students is designed to challenge traditional ideals of masculinity by combining physical activity with mindful dialogue, helping participants explore how body image pressures impact men and positively change their perception and feelings regarding their own body,” the Shoreline description read.

This event focuses on male-identifying students. Students may register on Shoreline to attend.

ECP hosts “Planting Fruit Trees!” workshop

The Edible Campus Program (ECP) is hosting a “Planting Fruit Trees!” workshop on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 2-3 p.m. at West Campus Family Student Housing Community Gardens.

“Join us for an organic tree care and planning workshops for West Campus and Storke gardens! During these workshops, we will teach students and other residents about how to decide where to plant a fruit tree, how to plan for what the tree will shade, and how large the tree may be at full growth,” the Shoreline description read.

Department of Recreation holds Climbing with Pride

The Department of Recreation is holding Climbing with Pride on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center Climbing Wall. 

“Join our climbing center staff for a night of climbing and socializing at the UCSB climbing wall! This event is for anyone in the LGBTQIA+ community who wants to get into climbing, as well as for anyone who already climbs and is looking for a fun night of socializing and beta swapping!” the Shoreline description read.

Students may register on Shoreline to attend. Harnesses and shoes will be provided. 

ECP hosts “Grow Your Own Indoor Mushrooms at Home!” workshop

ECP is hosting a “Grow Your Own Indoor Mushrooms at Home!” workshop on Monday, Feb. 3, from 4-5 p.m. at the Methodist Community Garden.

“Discover the joys of gardening with our hands-on Oyster Mushroom Kit Workshop! Join us to explore the art of cultivating your thriving indoor low-cost garden. Through engaging activities, you’ll learn the art of gardening and crucial techniques to create a flourishing harvest,” the Shoreline description read.

This event is open to those of all gardening experience levels.

Women’s Center holds “Bouquets of Self-Love”

The Women’s Center is holding “Bouquets of Self-Love” on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 2-3:30 p.m. at the SRB Multipurpose Room.

“Join us to put together beautiful bouquets of flowers to take home and write letters of love to ourselves,” the Shoreline description read.

This event is free and open to all.

LGBTQ Staff & Faculty Collective hosts Valentine’s Cardmaking

LGBTQ Staff & Faculty Collective is hosting Valentine’s Cardmaking on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the UCSB Library Makerspace. 

All materials will be provided. Students must register on Shoreline to attend. All new attendees to the Makerspace must complete an online safety module before the event. 

RCSGD holds “Bi Us For Us: Paint Night!”

RCSGD is holding “Bi Us For Us: Paint Night!” on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the RCSGD lounge.

“Get ready for a fun and colorful evening of painting, creativity, and relaxation,” the Shoreline description read.

This event is open to everyone, no experience is required to attend.
