Health & Wellness hosts Brain Break Station

Health & Wellness is hosting a Brain Break Station on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Student Resource Building (SRB) Multipurpose Room (MPR). 

“Take a brain break! Take a nap in one of our inflatable nap loungers, have a snack, chat with a mental health peer, or enjoy one of many creative and mindful activities,” the Shoreline description read.

This event will be hosted in collaboration with Counseling and Psychological Services (C.A.P.S.) Mental Health Peers, Associated Students (A.S.) Public & Mental Health Commission, A.S. Commission on Student Well-Being, Lean On Me and Active Minds. 

Health & Wellness holds Open Awareness Meditation

Health & Wellness is holding Open Awareness Meditation on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 12-12:45 p.m. at the Health & Wellness and Women’s Center Community Room in SRB room 1238.

“Practicing meditation can help manage stress, as well as improve memory and focus. Join us each week for a guided meditation with a certified facilitator,” the Shoreline description read.

This event is open to those of all experience levels and belief systems.

Interdisciplinary Humanities Center hosts Humanities Decanted: William Davies King

The Interdisciplinary Humanities Center is hosting Humanities Decanted featuring William Davies King on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Humanities and Social Sciences Building room 6020.

“Join us for a dialogue between William Davies King (Theater and Dance) and Jessica Nakamura (Theater and Dance) about King’s new book, Finding the Way to ‘Long Day’s Journey Into Night’: Eugene O’Neill and Carlotta Monterey O’Neill at Tao House,” the Shoreline description read.

Free refreshments will be provided.

San Clemente Villages holds Suicide Prevention Workshop

San Clemente Villages is holding a Suicide Prevention Workshop on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 4-6 p.m. at the San Clemente Center.

“Learn from Dr. Huang and Mental Health peers the warning signs to recognize when individuals are in crisis, tangible strategies that you can take to help those in crisis, and other strategies to help combat the issue,” the Shoreline description read.

Free snacks will be provided, including gluten-free and vegan options. 

UCSB Sustainability hosts Sueno Gardens Walking Tour

UCSB Sustainability is hosting a Sueno Gardens Walking Tour on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 4:30-6 p.m. starting at the I.V. Food Co-Op. 

“Come join [us as] we tour around IV and explore our community gardens along Sueno Road. On this tour participants will learn about the history of the Methodist community garden, Sueno Orchard, and Isla Vista Community Gardens at Estero Park as well as how to access these resources,” the Shoreline description read.

Students will also be able to learn about mindful practices, including breathing meditations.

AIICRC holds 49th Annual Native American Harvest Dinner

The American Indian and Indigenous Cultural Resource Center (AIICRC) is holding the 49th Annual Native American Harvest Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the University Center Hub.

“This event is UCSB’s longest-running annual campus event, serving to recognize and honor our Native and Indigenous students, staff, and community,” the Shoreline description read.

Dinner will be provided, including roasted turkey, grilled corn, squash and roasted fingerling potatoes.

Edible Campus Program hosts Nature’s Canvas: Field Journaling with Art and Watercolors workshop

The Edible Campus Program is hosting a Nature’s Canvas: Field Journaling with Art and Watercolors workshop on Friday, Nov. 22, from 3-4:30 p.m. at the West Campus Family Student Housing (FSH) Gardens.

“This session provides the perfect opportunity to slow down, reflect on the natural world, and connect deeply with your surroundings. Whether you’re new to field journaling or seeking to deepen your connection with nature, this workshop offers a space for mindfulness and creativity,” the Shoreline description read.

This event is open to all and materials will be provided.

RCSGD holds Sapphics on the Silver Screen 2

The Resource Center for Sexual & Gender Diversity (RCSGD) is holding Sapphics on the Silver Screen 2 on Friday, Nov. 22, from 4-5 p.m. at the SRB MPR.

“Join the RCSGD for cozy sleepover vibes, a TV episode screening, and gay girls! We’ll be screening a surprise TV episode in the MPR on Friday, November 22nd starting at 4:00 PM, so be sure to bring your own blanket and come in your comfiest PJs,” the Shoreline description read.

Snacks, drinks and “classic sleepover activities” will be provided. Students may register on Shoreline to attend.

RCSGD, QTGSU host Queer Friendsgiving

The RCSGD and the Queer & Trans Graduate Student Union (QTGSU) are hosting Queer Friendsgiving on Friday, Nov. 22, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Graduate Student Association Lounge.

“This Thanksgiving comes at a tough time for grads across the country, so take this time to come into a healing space with your fellow QT community, eat, drink, and connect with friends new and old,” the Shoreline description read.

Dinner will be provided, including a taco bar and various pies.

MCC holds Open Mic: Karaoke Night

The MultiCultural Center (MCC) is holding an Open Mic: Karaoke Night on Friday, Nov. 22, from 7-9 p.m. in the MCC Lounge.

“This quarter’s open mic is special as it will be a Karaoke Night! In true Filipino spirit, we’re turning this event into a lively celebration of music and community. Karaoke is a beloved tradition in Filipino culture, where friends and family come together to sing their hearts out,” the Shoreline description read.

Department of Recreation hosts 47th Annual Turkey Trot 5K / 10K 

The Department of Recreation is hosting its 47th Annual Turkey Trot 5K and 10K on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lagoon Lawn.

“Walk, jog, or run at your own pace or try to beat the clock as you join the Department of Recreation at this traditional event! Join us for the 47th Annual Turkey Trot 5k/10k walk/run featuring breathtaking views of the ocean, campus lagoon, and Isla Vista!” the Shoreline description read.

This event is open to all students, faculty, staff and community members and includes men’s, women’s and open divisions featuring prizes for each race. The pre-registration rate for students is $30, and students may register on Shoreline to attend.

RCSGD holds World AIDS Day event

The RCSGD, the Health Equity Advocate and Quilt Project Gold Coast are holding a World AIDS Day event on Monday, Nov. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SRB MPR. 

“We will be displaying AIDS memorial quilts and distributing HIV testing kits in the Student Resource Building’s Multipurpose Room,” the Shoreline description read.

Students may register on Shoreline to attend.

San Clemente Villages hosts Thanksgiving Food Drive

San Clemente Villages is hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 5-7 p.m. at the San Clemente Center.

“SCV is partnering with the UCSB Associated Students Food Bank to host our Thanksgiving Food Drive in the San Clemente Center on Tuesday November 26th,” the Shoreline description read.

Students interested may drop off any non-perishable food items or canned goods at the San Clemente Center. For every serving size of food donated, students will receive one raffle ticket towards a $50 Blenders gift card.
