The Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) is hosting an English Conversation Program on Thursday, May 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Student Resource Center (SRB) Room 1103.

“The English Conversation Program (ECP) provides an opportunity to develop English language skills while also allowing participants to connect with other members of UCSB’s international community,” the Shoreline description read.

The Professional Women’s Association is hosting a book club for “Little & Lion” by Brandy Colbert on Thursday, May 2, from 12-1 p.m. at SRB Room 2228 and on Zoom.

Copies of the book are available for loan.

A.S. Program Board hosts Ice Cream and Art Workshop with DJ Javier

Associated Students (A.S.) Program Board is hosting an Ice Cream and Art Workshop on Thursday, May 2, from 2-3:30 p.m. at the MultiCultural Center (MCC) lounge.

The workshop will be led by DJ Javier, a Santa Barbara-based, Filipino American artist specializing in murals, posters and fine art.

The event will also feature ice cream from Creaminal. 

Communication department holds fall enrollment info session

The UCSB communication department is holding a Fall Enrollment Info Session on Thursday, May 2, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Zoom.

Advisors from the department will present on pre-major requirements, research and internships, the change of major process and degree requirements.

The OISS is hosting “UCSB All Languages Language Exchange!” on Thursday, May 2, from 4-6 p.m. at the SRB Multipurpose Room (MPR).

Students at all language levels are welcome. Food will be provided.

Edible Campus Program hosts Macrame in the Gardens

The Edible Campus Program is hosting Macrame in the Gardens on Thursday, May 2, from 5-6 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church.

“Macrame allows us to enter into a meditative flow without getting overwhelmed. Focusing on the task at hand allows us to sooth our mind and find comfort,” the Shoreline description read.

No experience is necessary and materials will be provided.

Transfer Student Center, Veterans & Military Services, Non-Traditional Student Resource Center host ’90s trivia night mixer

The Transfer Student Center, the Veterans & Military Services and the Non-Traditional Student Resource Center are hosting a ’90s Trivia Night mixer on Thursday, May 2, from 7-9 p.m. at the SRB MPR.

Food and prizes will be provided. The event is for students over the age of 25.

S.E.A.L. holds Gaucho Underground Scholars and Restorative Justice Resource Fair

Student Engagement & Leadership (S.E.A.L.) is holding a Gaucho Underground Scholars and Restorative Justice Resource Fair on Friday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MCC Theater and Storke Plaza for formerly incarcerated and system-impacted communities.

The event will feature keynote speaker Ryan Rising followed by an open discussion and a campus tour.

Lunch will be provided to attendees who register.

Vietnamese Student Association hosts Vietnamese Culture Night

The Vietnamese Student Association is hosting a Vietnamese Culture Night on Friday, May 3, from 6-9 p.m. at Campbell Hall.

“The production tackles various aspects of Vietnamese/Vietnamese-American identity but our cast is made of people of different backgrounds. Through VCN, we hope to both maintain and adapt Vietnamese culture here in UCSB, as well as create a tight-knit community!” the Shoreline description read.

The A.S. Trans & Queer Commission is holding a Lesbian Lounge: Lagoon Trail Hike on Saturday, May 4, from 10-11 a.m. at the REEF.

Women’s Center, African Diasporic Cultural Research Center host self-defense workshop

The Women’s Center and African Diasporic Cultural Research Center are hosting a self-defense workshop on Monday, May 6, from 5-7 p.m. at the SRB MPR.

The course is designed to teach historically marginalized identities about self-defense in a positive atmosphere. Prospective attendees must register to participate.

Los Curanderos holds pop-up market

Los Curanderos is holding a pop-up market fundraiser on Tuesday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Lot 22 lawn.

Health & Wellness, the Asian Resource Center and the Equal Opportunity Program (EOP) are hosting a Mindful Meditation event on Wednesday, May 8, from 11:15-11:45 a.m.

The event will be hosted by certified facilitator Michael Takahara. Prospective attendees must register for the location.

Health & Wellness holds hip-hop dance class

Health & Wellness is holding a free hip-hop dance class in collaboration with UCSB Untitled Dance Company and Kapatirang Pilipino Modern on Wednesday, May 8, from 2-3:30 p.m.

“In this collaboration with Pilipino Cultural Night, come learn a feminine, groovy combo to ‘Fly Girl’ by FLO and Missy Elliot, and about the ways dance benefits the mind,” the Shoreline description read.
