Officials Capture UCen Perpetrator

Police arrested the man behind the University Center knifing yesterday.

UCSB Police Dept. Sgt. Matt Bowman said his office received word that Umberto Castellanos-Alvarez, a former UCen employee, was assaulting a current UCen worker with a pocketknife in the Assets Protection Room, which serves as a surveillance center.

The UCSB student body was notified yesterday via e-mail that defeated 3rd District Supervisor candidate Steve Pappas has subpoenaed the university for the “names, resident addresses, dates of birth and citizenship of all students, undergraduate and graduate, enrolled at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2008.”
