Officials Capture UCen Perpetrator
Police arrested the man behind the University Center knifing yesterday.
UCSB Police Dept. Sgt. Matt Bowman said his office received word that Umberto Castellanos-Alvarez, a former UCen employee, was assaulting a current UCen worker with a pocketknife in the Assets Protection Room, which serves as a surveillance center.

The media crowded around the red carpet, ready to barrage any celebrity with flashbulbs and questions.
Winslet Honored With Montecito Award
Six-time Oscar-nominated British beauty and talented actress Kate Winslet has come back to Santa Barbara for this year’s 24th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival to receive the Montecito Award. This award is given every year acknowledging someone who essentially is just, well… super cool (see last year’s recipient, the badass Tommy Lee Jones).

Pappas Asks for Evidence
The UCSB student body was notified yesterday via e-mail that defeated 3rd District Supervisor candidate Steve Pappas has subpoenaed the university for the “names, resident addresses, dates of birth and citizenship of all students, undergraduate and graduate, enrolled at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2008.”
