The days leading up to Finals Week can leave many red-eyed and faded. Hazy study sessions that go on for hours at a time often lead to an altered state of mind and an unbearable hunger for munchies. Unfortunately for these burned-out students, many eateries close around 10 p.m. It’s up to the select locations still open to support the never-ending appetite of these stumbling night crawlers.

Roll Up Another Tortilla Joint

Located at 6547 Trigo Rd., Super Cucas is a mere stone’s throw away from Isla Vista Theater. Open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and open all 24 hours from Thursday to Saturday, Cucas is the perfect stop after a night of hard studying on Del Playa Drive. The interior is decorated with a south of the border aesthetic that warmly welcomes customers coming inside from the increasingly colder winter nights.

What differentiates Cucas from other late night Mexican eateries is its sizable menu with over 50 items to choose from. Orders such as the Super Burrito ($6.49) and the Super Nachos ($6.99) certainly live up to their namesake in both size and taste. A Super Burrito expands to a monstrous size with its rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, onions and cilantro. Beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream and Pico de Gallo warmly blanket the Super Nachos. The best part is that the price does not fluctuate based on the customer’s choice of beef, chicken, pork or marinated pork for their meat.
