Editor, Daily Nexus,

Being a current UCSB student in my fourth year, I have become increasingly aware over the years of how drab and unimpressive our campus is. I remember as a freshman being told by some lady at the convocation that “We are going to school at one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. Believe it!” Well, lady, I don’t believe it now.

Now being on the ocean is super cool. But the campus itself… wow. “Depressing” is the only word I can really use to describe it. What’s with these old cranberry sauce-colored buildings? Time for a new paint job, maybe? What about painting some of the buildings our school colors? Our school could definitely use a boost in the school spirit department.

UCSB has an interesting dynamic in the fact that it probably has one of the least social campuses on earth, while being next to probably the most social residential setting on earth. You rarely see anyone really stopping to talk on campus, and I believe this is partly due to its appearance, along with the obvious factor of our campus being a bike-o-rama. If it only looked remotely similar to Santa Barbara City College — now that would be awesome.

So anyway, I don’t mean to sound like a complainer, but I really think something should be done to improve the overall impression on the campus. UCSB is a great school, but the campus appearance is severely dragging it down.
