The Santa Barbara Alcohol and Drug Program (SBADP) is aiming to curb binge drinking in Isla Vista, and with a recent grant of $237,000 it now has the funds to target local residents while they are out partying.
The money, which was officially awarded Oct. 1, is the first installment of what may add up to nearly $750,000 in grants from the California Alcohol and Drug Program over the next three years. Assistant Program Director of the SBADP Al Rodriguez said most of the grant will go to fund a team of workers who will be dispatched to parties in I.V. to collect information on the effects of binge drinking.
Rodriguez said the plan is to contact party hosts who serve alcohol with little concern for the safety of the party guests, and to educate them about the dangers of allowing people to drink excessively.
