I am a new student at UCSB and am very excited about beginning my studies. I was also looking forward, as a Jew, to getting involved in Jewish student groups here. That was until Monday, when I walked by the UCen and saw all the religious groups, including the Jewish group Hillel, at their tables. Written on their banner at their table was something I found totally disgusting. The banner said, “Just Jew it,” and had the Nike Swoosh superimposed over the Star of David. So, does Nike sponsor G-d now? I find this completely disrespectful of my religion and my heritage. I mean, I have a sense of humor and all, but what’s next, a Starbucks ad on copies of the Torah? If this is how Jewish groups operate here, I will not be joining.
