Beginning Monday, Sept. 22, Isla Vista residents will not have to run as far to catch the bus.

Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District’s line 27 will be making stops on Sabado Tarde Road, Camino del Sur and UCSB’s Ocean Road. A newly constructed transit gate at Sabado Tarde and Ocean will allow the bus to drive directly onto campus from the heavily populated area of I.V.

“This expanded service makes it easy to catch the bus and quickly get onto campus or out to the Camino Real Marketplace,” 3rd District Supervisor Gail Marshall said. “This new service is bringing buses to where people live and is designed to be fast, easy and convenient.”

The new bus stops will be along Sabado Tarde at Camino del Sur, Camino Pescadero, El Embarcadero and Ocean Road. Line 27 will have consistent stops every half hour Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bus riders can get to UCSB’s North Hall within five minutes and to the Camino Real Marketplace within 10 minutes. A new stop on Ocean will also allow convenient access to buildings on the west side of campus.

“We are pleased that line 27 continues to be such a good service for the community of Isla Vista and look forward to its continued success,” MTD General Manager Gary Gleason said.

UCSB and Santa Barbara City College students can ride the bus for free by presenting their student I.D. cards to the bus drivers. A portion of registration fees go to MTD to provide students with unlimited bus transportation.
