A unanimous vote Thursday night made UCSB student Logan Green the newest member of the Isla Vista Recreation and Parks District Board of Directors.

Green, an undeclared sophomore, was one of two individuals running for the board member position opened by Selena Gonzales’ resignation last February. Remaining board members Harley Augustino, Bryan Brown, Diane Conn and Ariana Katovich each voted in favor of filling the vacancy with Green.

“I’m thrilled that the park board now has direct student representation,” Green said.

Conn said she was excited to be working with Green.

“Logan already has some great ideas and great energy and he’ll be replacing one of the best chairs I’ve ever seen” she said. “We’re really glad to have a student on the board to help us connect with the student community.”

During his interview, Green said a skateboard park should be included in the final plan for the proposed I.V. Community Center.

“I think a skatepark would be a great way to bridge the gap between community members and students who otherwise wouldn’t have opportunities to interact,” Green said.

Green also said he hoped the community center could be constructed as a model “green” building, similar in style to UCSB’s Bren Building.

As a board member, Green said he plans to address the plight of I.V.’s homeless population during his tenure.

“I want to put a face and understanding to the homeless population of Isla Vista,” Green said. “Most people don’t take the time to understand why they’re here, what they do and how to help them.”

Augustino credited both Green’s character and preparation for his successful election.

“Logan is thoughtful and does his homework, and his energy will be welcome,” Augustino said.
