The Associated Students Finance Board doled out $36,074 to 11 student organizations at last night’s three-and-a-half hour meeting.

The board fully funded L.A.M.B.D.A.S., Raagamala, Russian Club and Laughology a.k.a. Comics Anonymous while partially funding Vietnamese Student Association, Latino Business Association, Chabad, American Students for Israel, New Music and Dance Company, Armenian Club and INDUS.

American Students for Israel presented last night, requesting $10,257 for a third annual Infected Mushroom Concert at UCSB, scheduled for April 21. According to ASI President Noa Yaari, the concert will be co-sponsored by the A. S. Program Board.

However, Yaari said, ASI needs to secure funding before the Program Board will begin to sponsor the event.

The board’s final decision was to allocate $4,262 to ASI for the talent fee and publicity.

Latino Business Association also came to the board asking $7,687 for their 2nd annual leadership conference, set for May 1. The conference will consist of eight different workshops and two keynote speakers to allow students to network with local companies.

Board member Marcus Rochellle, citing past experience, said the conference was a solid event to invest in.

“[I have] been to this event … and it was a great event,” he said. “Even if we [do not] fully fund them, they can still come back.”

The group was partially funded by the board, receiving $6,105.

GreenScreen, a relatively new organization on campus, also presented last night, requesting $750 to showcase environmental documentaries to coincide with the Environmental Affairs Board’s Earth Day Festival in Anisq’ Oyo’ Park.

Rochellle favored to fully fund the event.

“I really like this group … they are trying to showcase their work … and they [consider] issues that pertain to us,” Rochellle said. “Not funding this event is a mistake.”

Although he agreed the event is important, Board Member of both student finance and EAB board James Hawkins opposed funding the organization.

GreenScreen should have asked for funds from related community organizations such as the Isla Vista Community Relations Committee before coming to the board, Hawkins said.

Ultimately, the board decided to table GreenScreen’s request for one week in order for them to attempt to secure other sources of funding.

Laughology, a.k.a. Comics Anonymous, received full funding of $5,850 to continue holding standup comedy performances every Saturday in Embarcadero Hall.
