Adam Delafuente was sentenced to 30 days in Santa Barbara County jail and three years of probation for a misdemeanor battery that occurred over a year ago.

Delafuente, an 18-year-old San Diego resident, was one of eight defendants on trial for the assault of a 19-year-old last September, which police said was caught on videotape. Six of the defendants are expected to enter their pleas today. The seventh pleaded not guilty on Oct. 3.

Delafuente, who pleaded no contest, faced the least serious charges, while the other defendants were charged with felonies, including felony kidnapping.

Deputy District Attorney Joyce Dudley said Delafuente was sentenced after the judge viewed the videotape of the assault. In addition to the days served, Delafuente’s probation mandates that he write the victim a letter of apology, stay away from places where alcohol is served, donate $500 to a local agency that deals with child abuse and stay away from the other defendants in the case for the entirety of his probation. Violation of the probation can result in up to six months in county jail.

“The judge picked the sentence,” Dudley said. “I asked for three months custody, but it’s fine.”

Dudley said she expected the remaining defendants to plead not guilty in court this morning.
