UPDATE: [12/3/25, 2:00 p.m.] This article was updated to reflect that the suspect is not an active member of Mu Delta.

A UC Santa Barbara student was arrested at the UCSB Library for a misdemeanor violation of criminal invasion of privacy on Nov. 18. The suspect is not currently on campus, according to the University.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released due to pending charges. According to UCSB media spokesperson Kiki Reyes, the University of California Police Department (UCPD) arrested the suspect and conducted an initial investigation prior to the suspect’s arrest.

According to UCPD’s Daily Crime and Fire Log, the nature of the suspect’s offense involved the distribution of “intimate photos.”

At the time of the suspect’s arrest, they were pictured wearing a Mu Delta sweatshirt. The suspect has been confirmed as an inactive member of Mu Delta, a pre-health fraternity at UCSB.

According to Matthew Joaquin, a fourth-year biology major and the Mu Delta UCSB president, the suspect has “not been considered an active member of the Mu Delta Pre-Medical Fraternity since the beginning academic year and has since been severed of affiliation with [the] organization.”

Joaquin said that his organization was unaware of the suspect’s actions until the release of a Santa Barbara Independent article on the suspect’s arrest.

“The actions described by the individual in the article do not reflect our values as an organization, nor do they represent our membership,” Joaquin said in a statement to the Nexus.

The UCPD’s investigation is currently ongoing, and no additional information about the suspect’s identity has been released.

“UCPD is requesting people with information that might assist in the investigation, to contact UCSB Police Department at (805) 893-3446, or report crime information anonymously at www.police.ucsb.edu/report-crime,” Reyes said in a statement to the Nexus.

The Nexus will continue to report on this topic as more information becomes available.
