Calendar for 10/26/06
Thursday (10/26): He’s the first-ever editorial cartoonist to win a Pulitzer and the creator of one of the coolest comic strips in the history of mankind, Doonesbury. That’s right boys and girls, Garry Trudeau is coming to the Arlington Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara tonight. Friday (10/27): In the mood for some frightening film fun? Head straight to a screening of “The Descent,” sponsored by Magic Lantern Films tonight. The showings, which will be held at I.V. Theater, start at 7 and 9:30 p.m. and tickets are just $4.
Saturday (10/28): Before you start pounding shots, how about some good old-fashioned trick-or-treating? Check out Boo At The Zoo, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Santa Barbara Zoo. The zoo closes down for the event, so you have to buy the $10 tickets if you want to partake in trick-or-treating, spooky storytelling, games, a costume parade and ghoulish gastronomic delights. Sunday (10/29): Nothing will cure your Sunday afternoon hangover like taking in a ghost story with plenty of catchy showtunes and upbeat dance numbers. Check out Santa Barbara Theatre’s “Forever Plaid,” as it plays at 2 p.m. at the Lobero Theatre. For more information, call (805) 963-7282.
Monday (10/30): Check out what happens when love and art intersect today, as the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara and Art at the JCC present “Married 2 Art.” This exhibit delves into the theme of what happens when an artist marries an artist, with films, art and lectures happening from now until January that explore the phenomenon of famous artist couples. The art portion of the exhibit will be on display at the Jewish Federation from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and more information is available at www.jewishsantabarbara.org.
Tuesday (10/31): Animal Liberation Orchestra, the eclectic rock darlings of the S.B. music scene, is playing a special Halloween show with Matthew McAvene at SOhO tonight. Share the thrills and chills of seeing these up-and-comers up close and personal, with tickets for the 8 p.m. show starting at just $20. Unfortunately for underage ALO fans, the show is 21 and over only.
Wednesday (11/1): Indie-pop rockers Voxtrot are gracing the stage in the city of Angels tonight, as they headline at the Troubadour on Santa Monica Boulevard. The show, which also features Low vs. Diamond and Yellow Fever, starts at 8:30 p.m. and tickets are available for $10 in advance.
