Last night, a group of suspects assaulted two people at Tierra De Fortuna Park, stealing property from the victims. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the crime.

The UC Santa Barbara Police Department received a report of an armed robbery at approximately 6:44 p.m., according to a Timely Warning sent to UCSB students at 5:29 a.m. Two individuals were approached by “three to four male suspects” who demanded their belongings.

One of the suspects proceeded to lift his sweatshirt to reveal a black handgun tucked into his waistband, while a second suspect held a knife and told the victims he would “kill them.” According to the warning, the suspects assaulted the two individuals after they attempted to flee.

The suspects then stole belongings from both individuals, who fled and reported the crime afterward.

The Timely Warning described the suspects as Hispanic males of unknown ages. They wore masks and the suspect holding the knife was described as wearing “a grey hooded sweatshirt and black ‘dickies’ style pants.” The remaining suspects were described as wearing “black hooded sweatshirts and black ‘dickies’ style pants.”

Tierra De Fortuna Park is near West Campus Faculty Housing and is described in the Timely Warning as “campus-adjacent public property.”

The Nexus will continue reporting on this issue as more information becomes available.
