Habit Burger & Grill in Isla Vista, California, has taken to fucking up orders.
“I ordered a strawberry milkshake,” Heskel Norwood, a UC Santa Barbara student who went to the Habit last Tuesday, said. “They gave me a burger and fries.”
After numerous such mix-ups, CEO Abraham B. Eurgheur has revealed that this is a result of his promise to pay his employees more if they can reduce energy and food waste at their respective locations. Most locations in California, Arizona and Florida have opted for using clean energy to power their lights, donating excess food or altering their future order forms to reflect previous sales. However, the Isla Vista location has decided that it is their customers, not them, who are to blame for food waste.
Gus Lee Tier, an employee at the Habit, offered their own take on the situation. “Why would someone order a milkshake when we have hundreds of burgers we still need to sell? They’re inconsiderate. They want all those burgers to go to waste.”
Outrage erupted in the Isla Vista area when more people began receiving food they did not order. At first, these were minor mix-ups — a hamburger with tomatoes when a customer requested only cheese, or a chocolate milkshake instead of an Oreo one — but in recent weeks, it has escalated to mistakes that the Habit cannot sweep under the rug, as Eurgheur has demanded that all rugs be removed from the Isla Vista location.
“I tried to get them to stop,” Eurgheur stated in an interview on Friday, “but they just swept the receipts under the counter instead. I can’t get rid of that, right? That’s, like, kind of necessary.”
Despite the public’s anger, the Habit in Isla Vista shows no signs of giving customers their proper orders any time in the near future. Even though Eurgheur is not pleased with the location’s customer service ratings, they are technically reducing food waste, so he will still raise their pay in the coming months.
“I get paid more for lying to people and pissing them off,” said Tier. “It’s pretty fun, I guess.”
Until Eurgheur gets this under control, the best way to ensure you get your order might be to simply steal it from the back.
