UC Berkeley Utilizes Geothermal Energy on Campus
A research team at UC Berkeley is helming a project to utilize geothermal energy for buildings on campus. Tapping into the geothermal energy source involves drilling a hole underground 400 feet deep and 8 inches wide. Drilling of the boreholes to reach the bedrock under campus is currently underway, and the research team is exploring options of how best to utilize the energy, CBS News Bay Area reported.
Disability Activists Criticize UCLA’s Hollywood Diversity Report
UC Los Angeles recently released its annual Hollywood Diversity Report analyzing diversity in the filmmaking industry and is facing criticism from activist group FWD-Doc for its perceived exclusion of those with disabilities.
FWD-Doc represents Documentary Filmmakers With Disabilities and includes James Lebrecht, the founding member of FWD-Doc and co-director of the Oscar-nominated 2020 documentary “Crip Camp.”
As reported by Variety, Lebrecht stated that “UCLA’s report that stands for promoting diversity is an egregious case of exclusion and perpetuates the misconception that people with disabilities do not exist in the entertainment industry.”
FWD-Doc is currently demanding a public statement from UCLA acknowledging its oversight in the report and the damage it creates.
UC Health Schools Ranked in Top 20 Among Best Graduate Schools
U.S. News and World Report recently released rankings for Best Graduate Schools for 2023, placing four UC schools of medicine within the Top 20 of two categories. UC San Francisco tied for No. 3 among Best Medical Schools for Research, while UCLA was ranked No. 19 and UC San Diego was ranked No.20. Among Best Medical Schools for Primary Care, UCSF was ranked No.2, UC Davis was ranked No. 8 and UCLA was ranked No.13.
