At 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 1, the University of California Police Department (UCPD) sent out a Timely Alert advising people to stay away from Goleta Beach. Twenty minutes later, they reported that suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, approximately 5 feet 8 inches, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and possibly carrying a firearm.
The suspect was last seen either near the Goleta Beach Pier or near the bike path leading to campus, according to the latest alert on Feb. 1.
A detective has been assigned to the case, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Raquel Zick told the Nexus. She did not provide further information and the case is ongoing.
UCPD reported one other case of sexual assault at campus housing in January this year, according to the UC Santa Barbara Daily Crime and Fire Log. There were no other accounts of robbery.
The Nexus will continue to report on this topic as more information becomes available.
