In celebration of Halloween on Oct. 31, Isla Vista and campus entities have organized programming throughout October. This includes the Oct. 26-27 and Nov. 2-3  weekends, during which a social ordinance will be enforced by the Isla Vista Foot Patrol. 

Santa Barbara County Halloween ordinances from Oct. 26 to Nov. 4

Santa Barbara County is imposing a Halloween festival noise ordinance effective from Oct. 26 through Nov. 4., between the hours of 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. The ordinance means no noise, including live music and recorded music played aloud that carries outside of one’s residence, is allowed. 

Additionally, parking restrictions and road closures will be in effect from Oct. 28-31. Phelps Road will be fenced off, and roadblocks may be placed on the following intersections: Trigo Road and Embarcadero del Norte, El Embarcadero Road and Embarcadero del Mar, Camino Del Sur and Sabado Tarde Road, Camino Pescadero and Sabado Tarde Road, Camino Corto and Sabado Tarde Road, as well as Del Playa Drive and Camino Corto.

Cars parked on the 6500 block of Trigo Road must be moved from the road starting Oct. 28 at 12 p.m. until Oct. 31 or will otherwise be towed. Residents are strongly recommended to move their cars if parked along Del Playa Drive and Sabado Tarde Road.

The police may place roadblocks restricting access to Del Playa Drive and Sabado Tarde Road and require proof of residence for access to closed-off road areas.

UCSB is restricting visitors from staying overnight in residence halls and off-campus university apartments during Halloween weekend. No overnight visitor parking on campus will be permitted for Friday or Saturday nights. Students with an annual Night & Weekend permit can park in designated campus lots starting Oct. 28 at 9 a.m. to Oct. 31.

A.S. Program Board presents Delirium 

Associated Students (A.S.) Program Board is hosting Delirium this year for two nights in a row on Oct. 24 and 25, featuring artists Cloonee on the first night and Mike Sherm on the second night. Both events will begin at 8 p.m. at The Hub and are only open to UCSB students with a valid access card.

Cloonee tickets are still available for $5, but the Mike Sherm show is sold out. 

UCSB Department of Recreation presents Hallowheels 

At the UC Santa Barbara Recreation Center, the UCSB Department of Recreation, Health & Wellness, Life of the Party, Gauchos for Recovery and Woodstock’s Pizza are partnering for Hallowheels, where students can roller skate around the Rec Cen on Oct. 25 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Participants can come wearing costumes, and there will be pumpkin painting, silent disco, a photo booth, a costume contest with prizes, esports and free candy. 

Roller skate rentals will be free and students must bring their ID for entry. 

UCSB Women’s Center presents Witches & Feminism 

The Women’s Center is inviting students to decorate cookies and discuss the intersection of witches and feminism on Oct. 31 from 1-2 p.m.

Supplies and candy will be provided.

Latin@/x UCSB Network Association hosts Día de los Muertos Celebración de la Gente 

Latin@/x UCSB Network Association is hosting their annual Día de los Muertos Celebración de la Gente on Oct. 30 from 4-6 p.m. at the Student Resource Building front lawn. 

According to the Shoreline description, it is a celebration that “captures the idea of unity between life and death” and is “a synthesis of the indigenous Mesoamerican and Spanish conquistador traditions.” 

There will be food, art, music, performances, spoken word and an altar to celebrate the deceased. 

RCSGD presents “Bi+ For Us”

The Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (RCSGD) is hosting an afternoon of connection and free food from Super Cuca’s on Oct. 31 from 3:30-5 p.m. Students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes and connect with the bisexual+ community.

IVCSD hosts Day of the Dead Arts Festival and Night Market

The Isla Vista Community Services District (IVCSD) is hosting a Day of the Dead Arts Festival and Night Market at the IVCSD Community Center on Oct. 19 from 6-10 p.m. It will have local cultural arts and sustainable items to source for Halloween.

The programming includes two Danza performances, interactive art, a Dia de los Muertos altar, custom screen printing, live music and DJs and local vendors. Attendees can bring photosof their loved ones to add to the altar, which will be displayed at the Community Center until Nov. 3. 

Glass House Brands and Farmacy are sponsoring the event.
