OISS hosts English Conversation Club

Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) is hosting an English Conversation Club meeting on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Student Resource Building (SRB).

“The English Conversation Club (ECC) provides an opportunity to develop English language skills while also allowing participants to connect with other members of UCSB’s international community,” the Shoreline description read.

The ECC is open to any UCSB international students, including their relatives. The club will be holding other social events throughout the year.

Professional Women’s Association holds Book Club

The Professional Women’s Association is holding a book club meeting on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 12-1 p.m. at the Equal Opportunities Program office conference room 2228.

The group will be discussing “Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee. Students interested should register on Shoreline. There are 10 copies of the book available to be borrowed.

RCSGD hosts QT Clothing Swap

The Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (RCSGD) is hosting its biannual Queer and Trans (QT) clothing swap on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 2:30-5 p.m. at the SRB lawn.

“Grab some free clothes for the fall at our biannual Queer and Trans Clothing Swap … We have thousands of clothing items (seriously),” the Shoreline description read.

Donations are not required to participate in the clothing swap. The event is open to all UCSB students, staff and faculty.

OISS holds UCSB All Languages Language Exchange

The OISS is holding a UCSB All Languages Language Exchange event on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 4-6 p.m. at the SRB third floor forum.

“Students, Staff and Faculty are welcome to join UCSB’s All Languages Language Exchange to meet fellow linguaphiles and practice your language(s) of choice at this bi-monthly cultural exchange event,” the Shoreline description read.

All languages and skill levels are welcome and light refreshments will be provided.

UCSB Sustainability holds Extract Escapades: Making and Using Compost Extracts Workshop + Volunteering

UCSB Sustainability, in collaboration with the Edible Campus Program and the Isla Vista Compost Collective, is holding Extract Escapades: Making and Using Compost Extracts Workshop + Volunteering on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Methodist Community Garden in Isla Vista.

“Join us in this hands-on workshop and volunteer experience to learn about creating and using compost extracts effectively in a community garden. A compost extract is where we hand massage compost into a bucket of water that in turn releases biology into the water. We will then use that extract to fuel our garden beds!” the Shoreline description read.

The event is open to all community members of any experience levels.

Health & Wellness hosts Breakfast Hacks with Tenaya Market

Health & Wellness, in collaboration with Basic Needs, Santa Catalina Residence Hall and Residential & Community Living, is hosting a Breakfast Hacks with Tenaya Market event on Friday, Oct. 4, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Tenaya Market.

“Join Chef Anthony at Tenaya Market for some breakfast inspiration. Sample different recipes ideas, shop ingredients, and learn about ways to stretch your grocery budget. Savory or sweet we have quick and easy brunch utilizing items that can be bought at Tenaya with EBT,” the Shoreline description read.

Arroz con leche, breakfast tacos with chorizo and Mexican chopped salad will be provided.

Health & Wellness, A.S. Food Bank host It’s Fall Y’all! Apple Tasting

Health & Wellness is hosting an It’s Fall Y’all! Apple Tasting on Friday, Oct. 4, from 12-3 p.m. at the Associated Students (A.S.) Food Bank.

“Kick off a sweet new year with apples and honey. Come by the AS Food Bank to join FNBS and the Halal Kosher Grocery Program sample different apple varieties, learn about campus food resources, and pick up fall recipe inspiration,” the Shoreline description read.

Food will be provided. Students can register on Shoreline to attend.

Non-Traditional Student Resource Center holds “Inside Out 2” Movie Night

The Non-Traditional Student Resource Center is holding an “Inside Out 2” Movie Night on Friday, Oct. 4, from 5:30-8:05 p.m. at the Storke Family Housing Community Center.

Pizza and drinks will be provided at 5:30 p.m. and the movie will start at 6 p.m. Students can register on Shoreline to attend.

S.E.A.L. hosts 21st Annual Student Leadership Retreat

Student Engagement & Leadership (S.E.A.L.) is hosting its 21st Annual Student Leadership Retreat on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Corwin Pavilion.

“This year, we’re charting a course through Leadership Odyssey: Empower Potential, Lead Beyond, and Elevate Today. This isn’t just another retreat — it’s your launchpad for unlocking new heights in your leadership journey,” the Shoreline description read.

A light breakfast will be provided during check-in. Students may RSVP on Shoreline to attend.

Health & Wellness holds Happiness Challenge Team

Health & Wellness is holding a Happiness Challenge Team event on Monday, Oct. 7, from 12-1 p.m.

“Creating lasting happiness requires intentional actions. The Happiness Challenge Team is a support group that works together and practices two positive psychology interventions each week. Our goals are to improve personal relationships, increase the meaning in our lives, and build community,” the Shoreline description read.

All students are welcome and many RSVP on shoreline to attend. The location of the event will be released to those who register.

OISS is hosting a J-1 Student Employment Workshop

OISS is hosting a J-1 Student Employment Workshop: On-Campus Work and Academic Training on Monday, Oct. 7, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the SRB Room 3135.

“J-1 visa holders, Interested in working? Find out how to gain work experience in the U.S. while staying in status! EAP Reciprocity and J-1 degree-seeking students are invited to an informative employment workshop,” the Shoreline description read.

Students interested in on-campus employment and Academic Training may register on Shoreline to attend.

CSEP holds Getting Started in Undergraduate Research Programs event

The Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships is holding a Getting Started in Undergraduate Research Programs event on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 10-10:30 a.m. at the Elings Hall Lobby.

“Learn about the different programs that the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships supports including the MARC scholars, SACNAS scholars, and EUREKA scholars! Our goal is to provide undergraduates with the opportunity to benefit from networking, mentorship, workshops, research conferences, and laboratory experience with faculty,” the Shoreline description read.

Students who attend may receive program funding for S.T.E.M. research.

Health & Wellness hosts Guided Meditation

Health & Wellness is hosting a Guided Meditation session with professional coach Joshua Steinfeldt on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 10:10-10:55 a.m.

“Joshua Steinfeldt is a professional coach, mindfulness teacher, and a positive psychology teacher. His meditation sessions will include research informed practices, brief practical teachings, and the principles of learn, practice, and embody,” the Shoreline description read.

Students may register on Shoreline to attend and receive the location.

COSWB holds Group Pilates Class

A.S. Commission on Student Well Being (COSWB) is holding a Group Pilates Classes event on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 9-9:50 a.m. at the University Center Flying A Studios room.

Fitness clothes, shoes and a yoga mat are recommended. All fitness levels are welcome. The class will be held weekly on a first-come, first-serve basis every Wednesday this quarter.

S.E.A.L. hosts Cultural Identities Fair

S.E.A.L. is hosting a Cultural Identities Fair in collaboration with Week of Welcome and Beyond on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Storke Plaza.

“This event was created to curate community among cultural & identity based campus organizations and entities to showcase the diverse options for student involvement and leadership!” the Shoreline description read.

Campus organizations will be tabling, fundraising and performing. Free food will be provided.
