On the afternoon of Aug. 21, a timely warning was sent to UC Santa Barbara students notifying them of a case of sexual violence perpetrated in campus housing earlier that Wednesday, around 1 a.m. 

The report of rape and strangulation was given to the UCSB Police Department and is still under investigation. The suspect and survivor did not know one another prior to the incident and met on the dating app Grindr.

University spokesperson Kiki Reyes stated there was no more information at this time.
