The project primarily aims to boost the seismic rating of the building to strengthen its stability in the event of a natural disaster or major earthquake, as well as install accessibility upgrades, according to university spokesperson Kiki Reyes.

The project is estimated to take a year to complete, after which the temporarily relocated bike racks in front of the Music Building will be returned to their original location.

Improvements to the Music Building will include reinforcing existing structural elements of the building, installing additional sheer walls and strengthening select columns and beams.

The building will also receive upgrades to the facility’s amenities, including a new access ramp, upgraded gender-inclusive restrooms, new signage and drinking fountains.

The Nexus will continue to report on this topic as more information becomes available.
