An armed individual at 761 Camino Pescadero is refusing to exit an apartment after threatening a victim with a knife, according to Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Raquel Zick.

The UC Santa Barbara Police Department (UCPD) and the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) — around a dozen officers in total — are currently on-scene alongside the SBSO Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team’s two armored vehicles and a K-9 unit. The SWAT team is currently attempting to engage with the armed subject via megaphone. 

UC Santa Barbara has released three emergency notifications since the incident began, and is currently warning students to stay away from the area. Students in the vicinity are advised to stay inside and avoid windows, according to the emergency notifications. 

UCPD and SBSO have closed the 760 block of Camino Pescadero until further notice.
