Pizza with the Press: Daily Nexus Town Hall

On Thursday, April 12, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m, the Daily Nexus will be hosting a Town Hall at Rincon Brewery. We want to hear about your questions and concerns regarding our coverage, and we want to open up our reporting process so members of our community have a chance to share their opinions with us. If you feel uncomfortable asking a question in person, there will be an anonymous Google form for any comments or suggestions that you may have. See you there, Gauchos!

Indian Food Tasting

Need a flavor boost, Gauchos? On Thursday, April 12, the Isla Vista Food Co-Op is hosting a HowGood demo with Maya Kaimal Fine Indian Foods from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Stop by and try five flavors of ready-made “dal,” or Indian lentils. Bring your friends to try this sustainable and organic meal!

The Mallards with The Swells

On Friday, April 13, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., The Mallards will be performing with The Swells on 6508 Del Playa Drive. Dress up in a spooky costume and stop by with friends to hear some groovy tunes. Those wearing the best costumes will get to dance on stage with both bands. The Swells will be performing at 9 p.m., and The Mallards will be performing at 10:30 p.m.

IVCSD Disaster Preparedness

Come participate in a conversation around disaster preparedness in Isla Vista hosted by the I.V. Community Services District on Friday, April 13, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m in the Isla Vista Community Room. Learn about how you can be ready for a natural disaster from Isla Vista’s local government.

County Composting Workshop

Do you care about the environment? Do you want to learn more about how you can help the environment? If you answered “yes” to both of these questions, don’t forget to come to the County Composting Workshop hosted by the Isla Vista Food Co-Op on Saturday, April 14, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The Associated Students Department of Public Worms and the Santa Barbara County Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division will be there to teach you about the kind of food that can be composted and the usage of worms. There will also be demonstrations with compost and earth machines. Bring your friends, enjoy some free snacks and learn about compost.

Grocery Shopping on a Budget

Are you unsure how to effectively budget your grocery money? On Monday, April 16, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Isla Vista Food Co-Op is hosting Grocery Shopping on a Budget, an event to teach students how to grocery shop on a budget of $50 a week. There will be demonstrations from the cookbook entitled “Good and Cheap: Eat Well on $4 a Day.” The Co-Op will be raffling off the cookbook at the event. Come learn how to utilize your grocery money wisely.

Free Tuesday Films: “The Disaster Artist”

Associated Students Program Board is hosting a free film called “The Disaster Artist” on Tuesday, April 17, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the I.V. Theatre. “The Disaster Artist” is about two friends who travel to Los Angeles and end up writing and directing their own movie. Bring your friends, some movie snacks and enjoy the film. Skip the movie theatre and swing by I.V. theatre.

The Global Environmental Justice Movement: Defining and Engaging

On Tuesday, April 17, Dr. David Pellow will be giving a talk on the global environmental justice movement from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rincon Brewery. Come learn about the future of the environmental justice movement and listen to Brengrass, which is a band of Bren school students. Not to mention, there will be free pizza. Swing by to get educated, eat some great food and listen to some groovy tunes.
