Three male suspects attempted to burglarize an Isla Vista residence on Sunday morning, breaking into the home and later fleeing the scene, the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.
The suspects entered a second-story apartment on the 800 block of Camino Del Sur after climbing a flight of stairs while residents were asleep, according to a Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) press release. The door to the residence was unlocked.
One of the female residents attended a party earlier in the evening and arrived home with a group of friends at about 3:45 a.m. and found the suspects in her living room. She did not recognize the men.
The resident began to yell at the suspects to leave the home, at one point grabbing one of the suspects, according to the press release. The suspect broke free from her hold and fled down the stairs.
The suspect was confronted by the resident’s friends but was able to flee after a brief struggle, SBSO reported in the release.
The second suspect ran past them on the stairs and escaped, said Julio Gutierrez, detective for the Isla Vista Foot Patrol.
While the first two suspects were on the stairs, another suspect remained in the living room near an open sliding glass door. He fled the room through the open door, escaping off a balcony to a courtyard.
The resident described the suspects as black males wearing all black clothing.
She said one of the males was 6’0” with a short buzz cut and wearing a black hoodie. She described another male as being 5’10” with hair shaved on the side, longer on top with bleached tips, according to the press release.
The resident was unable to identify the third suspect, Gutierrez said.
According to Gutierrez, the residents did not notify police about the incident immediately but first reported it to the security guards at the apartment complex.
Nothing was stolen from the residence, Gutierrez said.
All three suspects were seen on the apartment complex surveillance cameras.
Anyone that can help identify the suspects or has information about the crime should contact the Isla Vista Foot Patrol at (805)681-4179.
