A step-by-step guide to uglifying a perfectly good sweater, just in time for the holiday season! Hopefully this guide inspires the mediocre DIY artists of our generation, as well as the people who are stuck at home and happen to be incredibly bored.
Step 1: Purchase a sweater. It can be a fuzzy, knit one, a basic sweatshirt or one from a club or band you used to care about. Lay the sweater out and examine your options.
Step 2: Start brainstorming ideas. Try to choose a decorative medium that represents you as a person. For this example I will be using pasta and glitter, but don’t feel restricted to those two items. You do you, Booboo.
Step 3: Lay out a basic pattern for your sweater design. This is where you get to play around with shapes and designs before making a commitment, which is terrifying because commitment is scary because we are millennials. #relatable.
Step 4: Glue all your shit down. Alfredo sauce can be used as a possible glue substitute.
Step 5: Take a moment to pour yourself a glass of something because you earned it. I chose pomegranate juice because I’m still at the tender young age of 19 and I’m staying with my parents for the holidays.
Step 6: Test out your sweater by holding it up against yourself in the mirror like a suburban mom at Target. Inspect your work. If more glitter is needed, now is the time to add it.
Step 7: Once a sufficient amount of glitter has been affixed to your sweater, put it on to gain a feel for it.
Step 8: When every inch of fabric has been thoroughly adorned with decoration, get out and show that baby off to the world. The best time to wear an ugly sweater is all the time.
Merry Carbmas!
