The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept. arrested 21 year-old Arkansas resident Mathew Brian Hensley on Wednesday morning for his alleged involvement in a recent string of Goleta burglaries.

The SBCSD and Goleta Police Department issued an alert Tuesday morning warning residents in the Scripps Crescent Street area to be on the lookout for a thief reportedly disguised as a door-to-door salesman selling magazine subscriptions. Authorities arrested Hensley on North Fairview Avenue near Shirrell Way and booked him into the Santa Barbara County Jail after receiving numerous tips from local residents.

Hensley reportedly broke into several homes and burglarized one. According to an SBCSD press release, Hensley was staying in a Santa Maria Motel with several other male subjects.

Hensley remained in the Santa Barbara County Jail on $200,000 bail for felony residential burglary as of Wednesday afternoon.

According to the SBCSD press release, the county issues business licenses and matching identification cards to legitimate traveling salesmen. Residents are advised to stay alert and report any suspicious neighborhood activity.
