Wahoo’s Tacos is awaiting approval from a final inspection before its scheduled grand opening in the UCen this week.

According to UCen Dining Services Director Sue Hawkins, Wahoo’s new storefront — the last addition in the building’s recent redesign — is expected to draw more students to the area once completed.

“Root 217 and Subway have been doing well, but we think with the opening of Wahoo’s all UCen dining operations will see increased traffic,” Hawkins said in an email.

Starting on Feb. 20, the UCen will celebrate by offering one week of all Subway footlong subs at $5.00, pasta, pizza and cheesy bread specials at Domino’s for $2.99 and vouchers for free meals and fries from Root 217. Nicoletti’s Coffeehouse, Romaine’s and the Corner Store have also pledged to give away free cookies with each purchase, and according to Hawkins, the UCSB Bookstore will also participate.
