The Isla Vista Foot Patrol station at 6504 Trigo Rd. has closed its doors temporarily and is seeking volunteers to work as desk clerks while the office’s usual attendant is unavailable.

While IVFP deputies are still patrolling the streets of Isla Vista, Santa Barbara County Sherriff’s Department Public Information Officer Drew Sugars said the station’s limited budget cannot fund replacements for when the staff’s sole administrative office professional is out of office.

“Our staff is down about 13 percent over the last four years, so long story short, when the administrative office professional is off, we close the gate because there is nobody to work,” Sugars said. “There are people patrolling, there is just nobody working the desk there.”
