All beach entryways along Isla Vista and campus will be closed once again this weekend to prevent the possibility of Floatopia, the Santa Barbara County Parks Dept. announced yesterday.

The Isla Vista Foot Patrol will perform similar deterrence methods as last weekend to blockade the beach access points from would-be partygoers. According to a press release from the SBCPD, the county has not sanctioned the event, as organizers did not acquire the legal permits for sanitation facilities and trash collection.

In 2009, the festivities attracted over 12,000 attendees and caused wide-spread environmental damage that cost the coun- ty over $20,000 to clean up. The Parks Department began the beach closures — authorized through a county code — in 2010.
