Johnson, Saraceno Named Gaucho Athletes of the Year

The Big West Player of the Year, the sophomore guard scored 18.0 ppg to lead the conference.
Female Athlete of the Year: Rebecca Saraceno
The Big West Player of the Year, the senior volleyball player averaged 4.45 kills and 2.66 digs per set.
Men’s Team of the Year: Basketball

Women’s Team of the Year: Track and Field
The team took second place in the Big West Conference Championships, breaking several Gaucho records in the effort.
Men’s Sports Coach of the Year: Bob Williams
The Big West Coach of the Year, he led the basketball team to Big West regular season and tournament championships for the first time ever.
Women’s Sports Coach of the Year: Kathy Gregory
Co-Big West Coach of the Year, the volleyball coach led UCSB to an NCAA Tournament berth and a 22-8 overall record.

Female Newcomer of the Year: Mekia Valentine
The Second-Team All-Big West selection blocked a school-record 120 shots per game.
Male Performance of the Year: Scott Smith
The runner broke school records in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
Female Performance of the Year: Jane Doolittle
The high jumper broke a 20-year old school record in the event.

Gaucho Heart Award Winner: Senior swimmer Courtney Bauer.
Mr. and Ms. Gaucho: Junior waterpolo player Joe Plume, senior swimmer Anne Marie May.
