The candidates running for the Santa Barbara School Board may not be as familiar to most UCSB students as the candidates for the presidential election are, but they are real people with different views and experiences who will make a difference in the lives of the students in our community. Susan Deacon is a candidate running for the school board who knows the challenges facing the local schools and feels strongly enough about them to run for a position on the school board.

If you had an art or a music program that you liked in high school, Susan Deacon wants to make sure these programs are available to all students in the Santa Barbara School District. She also was instrumental in raising the funds for the great aquatic center at Dos Pueblos High School and she wants to make first-rate athletics programs available to all high school students. She also wants to see economically disadvantaged students enjoy the same opportunities as their peers. If she gets elected to the school board, she will fight for this and more. I know Susan Deacon very well, and she is our ideal candidate for the Santa Barbara School Board. I give her my strongest endorsement.
