Shell castings and bloodstains littered the 400 block of De La Vina Street in Santa Barbara early Saturday morning after a gang-related incident escalated into gunfire.

The shots rang out at approximately 2:30 a.m., after what witnesses say was a large altercation near the site of the shooting. Police are attributing the violence to local gang activity.

Two males were wounded in the shootout and were admitted to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. A 28-year old male suffered from gunshot wounds while the other, an 18-year male, suffered from both gunshot wounds and a stab wound. According to the authorities, neither suspect had life threatening injuries and both are in stable condition.

Numerous shell castings were found at the scene, and an aluminum baseball bat was recovered from a nearby bush. Police continued to search the area, which was near the corner of Gutierrez and De La Vina streets, long into the night.

Investigators are attempting to track down the persons involved and have asked the public for any information related to the incident. Those with information should contact Crime Stoppers of Santa Barbara County at (877) 800-9100.
