Editor, Daily Nexus,
In response to the article, “Student Cleans Up Isla Vista” (Daily Nexus, June 25), it’s easy to see we have a huge trash issue, but we also have the means to help curb the problem. The Coastal Fund, a student group in Associated Students, pays other student groups to pick up trash on the beaches and along Del Playa through the Coastal Service Program. Not only is it an easy fundraiser but it also helps the community. Working for the Coastal Fund, I’ve seen what students have accomplished by volunteering a few hours on a Saturday, walking the beach with some trash bags. In the last few years alone, groups that have participated have removed over three tons of trash! The clean-ups are offered year-round, and anyone can participate. Help control trash in Isa Vista this summer!
