The Rite Aid closest to Isla Vista will close permanently this Friday, after recent violations lost the branch its alcohol license.

According to Rite Aid spokeswoman Ashley Flower, the Rite Aid, located at 7127 Hollister Ave., is closing its doors on Jan. 18, and nearly half the shelves in the store are already empty. No employees will lose their jobs, as they are instead relocating to surrounding stores. The pharmacy records on file will transfer to the Fairview location at 199 N. Fairview Ave.

This news follows the recent violation that the Hollister branch incurred after law enforcement caught the store selling alcohol to minors three times in a three-year period. The California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control filed a report of legal actions in February 2007 to revoke the store’s alcohol license indefinitely.

According to Flower, the recent litigation had no bearing on the closure of the branch, but said the lease on the property is up, and the company has chosen not to renew it. Flower refused to comment on why they would not be renewing the lease.

Flower also said an inventory will be taken on Jan. 19, followed by a full liquidation of the store the day after.

Employees at the store refused to comment on the situation.
