A 17-year-old unlicensed driver was arrested for driving under the influence early Sunday morning after he crashed into a parked car and then hit a power pole in Santa Barbara.

The driver – who remains unidentified because he is a minor – and his two passengers, 16-year-old Aurelio Manzananez and 17-year-old Enrique Cortez were traveling westbound on Modoc Road near Encore Drive, just east of Hollister Road. According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, the car was moving at a high speed when the driver encountered a left curve in the road and lost control.

The vehicle – a 1991 Acura Legend – struck a parked car, which then moved forward and struck three other parked cars. The Acura then crashed into an Edison power pole and wrapped itself around it. The Santa Barbara County firefighters who responded to the crash used the Jaws of Life to remove the driver and passengers from the car. All three were then transported by ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

All three victims sustained injuries, none of which are considered life-threatening. According to the press release, the harm ranged from lacerations to concussions.

The driver, who is a resident of Santa Barbara, was arrested at Cottage Hospital for driving under the influence.

When he is released from the hospital, he faces juvenile felony charges for DUI.
