Editor, Daily Nexus,

This week is one of my favorites in Santa Barbara. It’s Bicycle Week. There are events going on all over town including film festivals, group rides, bike-to-work functions and bike-to-school events. I love all of it. But, more than anything, Bicycle Week reminds me of how lucky I am to work here at UCSB. UCSB’s Transportation Services is an oft under-appreciated group.

When it comes to helping us leave our cars at home, UCSB’s Transportation and Parking Services is as impressive as our top-rated research programs. If you are among the ranks of faculty, staff or graduate students at UCSB, be sure to look into the incentives our parking friends offer to those choosing to walk, bike, skate, carpool or take the bus to UCSB.

Back when I was a UCSB undergraduate, I loved drifting into campus on a single-speed, “trusty rusty” bicycle. Decades later, I’m still enjoying the same mode of transportation. James Wagner and the group at TPS help to make the bicycle the obvious choice for the commute to work. I tip my bike helmet to them for their leadership in sustainable transportation.
