A falling tree near Campus Point hit and trapped a visiting San Diego high school student last Thursday when she was touring UCSB as a prospective college.

According to Captain Eli Iskow of the Santa Barbara County Fire Dept., the 30- to 40-foot cypress tree pinned the woman when it fell, though she did not sustain severe injuries. The errant tree also struck her father and her boyfriend; the two were not seriously injured.

The woman was transported to Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Firefighters also removed another tree that was at risk of falling to prevent another accident.
