Eric Frimpong’s lawyer was back in court today, while the soccer player was back on campus after posting $250,000 bail.

Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Brian Hill held a private, 15-minute hearing in chambers before returning to the courtroom. The proposed restraining order against Frimpong’s roommate, second-year Patrick Monahan, was dismissed, and Judge Hill would only say the matter was no longer on the calendar.

District Attorney Mary Barron and Frimpong’s attorney, Robert Sanger sat side by side as they waited for the hearing to begin, and left the courtroom immediately following the hearing. Both lawyers refused to comment after the hearing and, as of press time, they did not return phone calls or emails.

Frimpong will be back in court on March 28 for his arraignment, and until a verdict is announced, the university will not take action against the soccer player, who missed out on the hearing yesterday to attend class.

Gary Cunningham, the director of intercollegiate athletics issued a statement on Feb. 21 regarding the accusations against Frimpong. In a letter, Cunningham wrote that he was “distressed and saddened” by the reported sexual assault.

Cunningham said everyone involved with the Athletic Dept. will fully cooperate with the police investigation, but refused to say any more on the case.

“Since this matter is now in the hands of the criminal justice system, I feel it is inappropriate at this time for me or staff members of the Dept. of Intercollegiate Athletics and our student athletes to comment further on these charges or to speculate about this incident,” he said.
