Over the weekend, Isla Vista Foot Patrol officers arrested a 38-year-old man for the sexual battery of a UCSB student and an 18-year-old man was jailed for residential burglary.

Both suspects, caught within a few hours of each other, were transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail with bails placed at $25,000 and $50,000, respectively.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Friday night, a 20-year-old woman entered the IVFP office on Pardall Road distraught and crying. She told IVFP officers that an older Hispanic male grabbed her and touched her inappropriately as she was walking through Anisq’ Oyo’ Park.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Investigator Craig Bonner said officers responded to the scene and approximately 45 minutes later the victim spotted and identified her attacker, who was entering the park bathroom.

According to the police report by IVFP Senior Deputy Jeff Greene, the subject attempted to flee the scene, but officers caught the man after a short chase. The attacker was identified as 38-year-old Victor Ibanez, who lives on Abrego Road.

During interrogation, Ibanez denied touching the victim. However, the man was charged for sexual battery and resisting arrest, and transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail. He was housed on $25,000 bail.
