Students looking for university-owned housing will have to wait a few days more, as a technical difficulty caused the Housing & Residential Services’ (HRS) website to crash yesterday morning.

Students were supposed to log onto the website, www.housing.ucsb.edu, at 8 a.m. Wednesday if they were interested in obtaining one of 1,000 contracts for on-campus residence halls or being placed in a lottery for the 650 spaces available in the university-owned off-campus apartments on El Colegio Road. However, because of the technical glitch, they must now wait until Friday at 10 a.m. to try again.

According to the HRS office, a few students successfully managed to log in and receive a confirmation e-mail before the system crashed. Those students will not have to reapply on Friday.

This is the second consecutive year in which the system has crashed. Representatives from HRS were unable to be reached for comment on what the nature of the technical glitch was, or whether it was the same problem that brought the site down last year.

Students will learn whether or not they have a housing contract by March 1.
