Editor, Daily Nexus,
The Adopt-A-Block program hosted its annual Halloween cleanup after the busy weekend. Adopt-A-Block is a community cleanup program administered by the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District and sponsored by the County of Santa Barbara, UCSB, and the Goleta West Sanitary District. This year, over 200 volunteers participated in the cleanup, removing 7,000 pounds of garbage from the streets of Isla Vista! Not only did we clean every block in I.V., we removed trash from the beaches as well. Also this year, we hosted a pre-Halloween cleanup the weekend before Halloween, to make I.V. as spruce as possible before the influx of people. Such a dense population has made preserving the beauty of Isla Vista – and our gorgeous coastline – a major undertaking. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out with the Halloween cleanup! With your help we were able to keep 7,000 pounds of litter off the streets and out of the ocean. Good work.
