Nearly 11,000 fans came to watch an internationally televised soccer match in Harder Stadium while supporting the victims of recent Hurricanes Rita and Katrina this past Sunday afternoon.

Chivas Select – a squad comprised of players from the U.S. and Mexico divisions of Club Deportivo Chivas – and Mexican first division team Santos Laguna faced off in the charity event. An estimated $200,000 in proceeds from the game will go to the American Red Cross to benefit hurricane victims, said Judith Dale, a UCSB Exercise and Sports Studies coordinator.
