The UCSB women’s lacrosse team won three games at the national championships, but a familiar foe kept the Gauchos out of the title game.

After cruising through the first two rounds, the top-seeded Gauchos (19-2) lost 8-2 to #4 Cal Poly, all but ending the most successful season in program history. Santa Barbara recovered the next day and defeated #6 Florida 7-6, to finish third place in the tournament, which was held in Blaine, Minn.

“We’re disappointed because we wanted to win it all,” sophomore Shanna Mota said. “We were sixth last year so third is better than sixth, but we wanted to be number one.”

Despite the fact that they were playing in 35
