From living in a Del Playa Drive apartment condemned for eviction to serving as a voting director on the Isla Vista Park and Recreation District, Kelly Burns is intimately involved in local affairs.

Her experience is her primary asset when compared to her opponent, Gerardo Zepeda. While Zepeda also has a genuine desire to represent student interest and facilitate student involvement in local issues, he did not live in Isla Vista over this past year and could not specifically outline courses of action in regard to ensuring student input on the proposed Isla Vista Parking Plan and Master Redevelopment Plan – two major local proposals that will affect every current and future UCSB student.

Without a personable, knowledgeable advocate for students in local community affairs like Burns, Isla Vista’s student residents will not be able to match the influence that university and law enforcement officials wield on our town.

The Nexus strongly endorses Kelly Burns for external vice president of local affairs.
