Editor, Daily Nexus,

The UCSB campus is dotted with the cry “Save Claire’s Park!” People who live and recreate in Isla Vista are clamoring for the acquisition of the bluff-top land that still remains undeveloped along the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive, as Isla Vistans always have.

The Board of Supervisors has dropped the ball and is in the process of closing the file. Should the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District try to pick up the ball and run with it? That is the question that will be considered at 4:15 p.m. today, at the board meeting at 961 Embarcadero Del Mar in I.V. Will they be able to acquire all five properties that remain privately owned in the middle of the now open space? Probably not. But they can try to salvage the deal and continue to negotiate with the Yankwich family who has been patient with the county so far. The board will need the support of the community to make this happen. Let us know what you think. You can attend the board meeting or you can email me at dianenconn@yahoo.com, and I will share your thoughts with the board. If you want this to happen, now’s the time to speak up.
