The UCSB women’s field hockey team ended its home schedule on a high note over the weekend with a pair of dominant shutouts against Davis and Chico State and a loss to Colorado.

The Gauchos (5-3 overall) lost a tough non-league game against Colorado, 3-0 on Saturday and then put on a clinic with a 5-0 thrashing of Davis later that day. The effort from the Davis game carried over to Sunday, as they handled Chico 3-0.

The win against Davis was all UCSB offense, all the time, shutting out the Aggies 5-0 with goals coming from five different players.

“We were seeing the passes really well today and that helped us take it down the line every time,” Head Coach Erin Morales said. “We were passing stick to stick and our forwards were taking endless shots on goal which helped us get our shutout.”

UCSB continued its supremacy over league opponents with a 3-0 win over Chico. The win was more satisfying for the Gauchos because of controversy that occurred before the game – Chico issued a complaint about the game’s start time, causing the game to begin three hours ahead of schedule.

Santa Barbara is now 4-1 in their last five games.

“I really feel like we’ve come a long way since the beginning of the season,” Morales said. “Our level of play has really improved week-to-week.”
